La Manga del Mar Menor, Region of Murcia, is a tongue of land 22 km long. To its west is the Mar Menor, which consists of a large saltwater lake with three channels or “golas”. To the east is the Mediterranean Sea. This is a unique natural environment, protected both nationally and internationally.
The different sections of the promenade follow the same fundamental design principles, thus guaranteeing its continuous character, but adapting to the richness of the place in each section.
Through this project we try to resolve the encounter between the city and the natural environment by creating a public space that guarantees accessibility for all citizens and helps to revitalise the most deteriorated areas.
Collaborating with local mobility, we are introducing a new cycle lane on the promenade that will connect with the existing route and with those planned for other sections of the promenade to create a continuous network that facilitates movement within the urban environment.
In the design of the promenade, special attention has been paid to the selection of materials, using 3R materials and permeable paving, thus improving the sustainability of the project.
